Bonga started surfing thanks to his father who liked going to the beach and always took him and his brothers. Even though he was not a surfer he always wanted his sons to surf so he gave them all his support. They started going to beachbeaks with small waves until they eventually moved on to the many points in Mazatlan. After a couple of years bonga's surfing talent was very notorious and he started entering contests, fisrts he got his butt kicked but as soon as he understood how competition worked he started winning a lot of heats, which got him every title in the state and eventually 3 national titles.

Shortly after winning those titles Bonga qualified to represent Mexico in the World surfing Games held in Barra Da Tijuca, Brazil in 1994 and again in California in 1996 where he did a great job despite never having surfed in a fullsuit. To this day Bonga says those where some of the best experiences he's ever had. Tragically a car crash ended his winning streak and kept him out of the water for months and it wasn't until years later that Bonga was able to fully recover from his injuries. When he finally got his act together he decided not to compete any more and just free surfed and went to college. His impressive surfing was still there but he decided competitions was not what he wanted to do anymore.

The incredible adventures of Bonga did not end there, he then started doing a lot of travelling, surfing all over mexico and in 2004 joined forces with Mazatlan Surf Center and started working in the surf lessons programs. When he's not teaching Bonga can be found surfing Camaron, hanging out with his wife and daughter or drinking a few beers with his co-workers, oh wait no, they are athletes, they drink water :)
